A new lifeline

Adam and Dina lost everything when their secret faith was discovered. But thanks to you, they’ve built a new life – and their faith is growing.

Young couple Adam and Dina*, in Egypt, seemed to have it all… A good income from Adam’s taxi business, a home with Adam’s parents, a stable future ahead.

But one day Dina’s brother told them about Jesus – and everything was turned upside down.

“It was the light we were missing,” said Adam. “His testimony changed our lives forever. We started reading the Bible and it encouraged us and enlightened us to see the truth and the way.”

“... the Bible enlightened us to see the truth and the way”

The couple started going to church, but kept their new faith secret. “I wasn’t sure how my father, an imam, would react,” said Adam. “My family considered Christians to be infidels, but how would they respond now one of their own had become a Christian?”

It turned out, Adam’s family were furious. When a Bible was discovered in Adam and Dina’s room, the truth was exposed…

The couple openly professed their faith in Jesus and tried to share the hope they’d discovered. But it was no use. “My father called us infidels, traitors. I had never seen him so filled with anger and hatred. He said we deserved to be killed and even threatened us with harm,” said Adam sadly.

That day, the couple fled. They said goodbye to their home, livelihood, friends and family. “We stepped into an uncertain future,” said Adam.

A lifeline

But there, waiting with practical help and spiritual support, was you.

Thanks to your gifts and prayers, Open Doors local partners helped Adam and Dina find a new place to live. Adam received a motorised trike he could use to transport goods and earn money. And the couple joined a discipleship group to strengthen their faith.

“You extended support to us in every aspect”

Adam
“We encountered numerous challenges spiritually, psychologically and financially,” says Adam, “But you extended support to us in every aspect. We discovered a secure and nurturing community to accompany us on our journey.”

Ongoing danger … and courage

However, Adam and Dina’s new life still comes with danger. Living under dual identities, they continue to hide their faith from neighbours to avoid violence. The fear of discovery looms constantly, and they remain in need of continued support from the ministry.

The situation for Muslim converts seems to be deteriorating in Egypt, as the pressure is increasing from both Muslim extremists as well as state security officials.

But the support you provide has been a lifeline, helping Adam and Dina remain grounded in a supportive community of believers. They receive ongoing counselling and maintain their livelihood. Despite all they have endured, Adam and Dina have found comfort in their faith, holding fast to the belief that God never forsakes His people.
